Meeting with Dr. Sophie Uyoga of KEMRI-Wellcome Trust
On June 6, 2025, DementiaAware Kenya held a follow-up meeting with Dr. Sophie Uyoga, Deputy Director at KEMRI-Wellcome Trust, to deepen ongoing conversations around dementia care and visibility in Kenya.
The meeting focused on how research, data, and community engagement can come together to shape a more responsive approach to dementia; one that recognizes the needs of both those living with the condition and their caregivers.
Dr. Uyoga reaffirmed the importance of integrating evidence-based approaches into grassroots awareness efforts. We explored possible synergies around caregiver support, early diagnosis, and building a data ecosystem that includes dementia as a public health concern.
At DementiaAware Kenya, we believe that real change happens when science and community experience inform one another. This meeting was an important step in cultivating a partnership grounded in shared purpose: ensuring families and caregivers are no longer left to walk this journey alone.
We are excited about the road ahead and grateful to Dr. Sophie Uyoga for her continued support and insight.
💜 Families deserve to be seen. Caregivers deserve to be supported. Dementia deserves a place on Kenya’s health agenda.
