Advancing Dementia Intergration into Kilifi's Public Health System
On July 24, 2025, DementiaAware Kenya signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Kilifi County Department of Health Services, formalizing a partnership to strengthen dementia care and awareness in the county.
This collaboration marks a critical step toward integrating dementia into Kilifi’s health system—through healthcare worker training, community outreach, caregiver support, and inclusion of dementia in public health reporting.
“This MoU is more than a document—it is a promise that families living with dementia in Kilifi are no longer invisible,” said Winnie Tsuma, Founder and Executive Director of DementiaAware Kenya.
Through this partnership, the County and DementiaAware Kenya will work together to:
Build the capacity of health workers to recognize and respond to dementia
Conduct joint community sensitization forums
Support caregivers through home visits and dignity kits
Promote data collection and inclusion of dementia in health indicators
This agreement lays the foundation for a future where dementia is treated not with silence or stigma, but with dignity, knowledge, and care.
