DementiaAware Kenya Participates in Kilifi County Health Stakeholders Forum

3 Jun 2025

Advocating for the inclusion of dementia care in local health systems

On June 3, 2025, DementiaAware Kenya had the privilege of attending the Kilifi County Health Stakeholders Forum; a high-level gathering that brought together key players from various health sectors to reflect on current priorities, review departmental progress, and align on future directions.

The theme of the forum centered on funding transitions within the county health system and offered an opportunity for departments and partners to share updates, challenges, and innovations. It was encouraging to witness the collaborative spirit in the room, with stakeholders from government, civil society, and development agencies all working toward a stronger and more responsive health system.

As DementiaAware Kenya, our presence was rooted in one clear message: dementia matters. While often overlooked in mainstream health conversations, dementia touches thousands of families in Kilifi, many of whom are silently struggling without support or a diagnosis. We emphasized the urgent need to integrate dementia into county health planning, data systems, and community outreach strategies.

We left the forum with renewed conviction and new connections. The discussions reminded us that no part of the health system exists in isolation. From mental health to NCDs, from maternal care to elderly services; every part must be responsive to the real experiences of our communities.

We are deeply grateful to the Department of Health for including us and look forward to building on this momentum as we push for policies, partnerships, and programs that center the needs of those living with dementia—and their caregivers—in Kilifi County and beyond.

💜 Because every mind matters.
